How Solar Contractors Can Adapt To The Coronavirus Economy

In the span of just a few months, the coronavirus pandemic has dramatically changed the economy. This is putting new pressures on solar contractors to adapt to the market’s new demands and dynamics.

Below, we go over some helpful strategies for staying successful in the midst of the pandemic.

Consider Local Product Sourcing

Governments are tightening restrictions on imports, putting solar product sourcing at risk for many contractors. If you haven’t already, you may want to consider switching to American-made solar panels.

Using US-based solar manufacturers will help you avoid current and future sourcing issues, especially since it’s quite likely we will see more surges of coronavirus throughout the year. Choosing one located within or near your state will further lower your risk of a disrupted supply chain.

Speak to the New Circumstances of Homeowners

Over 30 million Americans have either lost their jobs or had their hours reduced during the pandemic, and many have also experienced a painful blow to their long-term/retirement savings accounts. Contractors need to be mindful of this added financial strain when they court new customers, finding ways to present solar as a money-saving solution.

Additionally, this period of lockdown has given many people an unwelcome insight into just how expensive grid energy can be. With everyone in the family at home all day long, households are seeing their energy bills go way up. And with summer coming on, that cost is only going to grow. If you can pitch solar as a way to mitigate costs during the pandemic, you may have more luck converting buyers with money concerns.

Push for Community Opportunities

Fewer households may be looking to get their own solar installation right now, but that doesn’t mean the demand for more affordable, cleaner energy is gone. In fact, a large number of homeowners who need to save are signing up for community solar.

If you are having a difficult time finding enough residential leads, it’s worth seeing if you can land some community solar projects. It keeps your team working, and you’re still able to help local residents.

Get Help From Solar Lead Generation Companies

The coronavirus economy is one in which it’s tougher than ever for contractors to find dependable solar leads. To ensure that you can cover your costs each month, you may need outside help to land enough sales.

A good solar lead generation company can be the partner to get you through this difficult time. Even when you’ve had zero luck sourcing leads yourself, you can always count on a top agency like Grid Freedom to supply you with all the leads you need.

While you’re working on installations, Grid Freedom takes on all the responsibility of tracking down serious buyers. Only the most qualified customers are the ones who make the cut. This guarantees that every lead you receive has the highest possible ROI.

New York has Been Surging with Solar Developments in Q1 2020

By the end of 2019, the state of New York had achieved a solar capacity of 2 gigawatts. And the state is on track to up that number significantly in 2020. The first quarter alone has seen many solar project completions and announcements.

All of this activity has been in an effort to meet New York’s goal of having a 6 gigawatt capacity by 2025, and having 70% of its electricity come from renewable sources by 2030.

Bogart Solar Brings Community Solar to Greene County

The Bogart Solar project became operational in early February. Totaling 3 megawatts, the community solar build is allowing the people of Catskill to enjoy the benefits of solar energy, even if they can't get solar installations themselves.

Catskill’s new installation is capable of powering more than 300 homes in a single year. The project was made possible by Generate and Cypress Creek Renewables.

Solstice Opens 2 New Community Solar Farms

Early March saw the finalization of two big community solar projects led by Solstice. Located in Orange and Ulster counties, the two installations are ready to power as many as 800 homes throughout the neighboring regions. That’s about 6 megawatts total.

The farms should help local residents see a 10% reduction on their utility bills.

Upstate NY Will See 17 New Solar Projects

By 2024, the upstate region will have 17 new solar projects fully operational. Governor Cuomo announced in mid-March that there would be projects kicked off in multiple regions: a 19.99 megawatt build in Greenwich, a 200 megawatt facility in Conquest, and many more.

It’s predicted that all of these new facilities will produce more than 2.5 million megawatts per year. That will be sufficient to power over 350,000 homes.

If You Want to Ride the Solar Surge, You’ll Need Great Leads to Make it Happen

New York has built a lot of momentum in its solar developments. If you want to ride the wave of growing solar interest, you will need access to serious leads. Grid Freedom can help you connect with leads that have been personally verified as promising solar buyers.

Why Qualified Solar Leads are a Must-Have This Spring

Depending on what part of the country you live in, you may be starting to see the sun peek out from behind wintery clouds. The arrival of spring is soon to come, and with it, the warm-up before solar’s busy season hits.

An influx of leads can seem like only a good thing after a slow winter. However, too many low-quality leads can hold your business back.

Spring Brings Out the Window-Shoppers

The great thing about spring is that it gets people thinking about home improvements. They dive into a big round of spring cleaning and take a look at what aspects of their home could use a little attention.

This trend can often work in your favor, since a home-improvement mindset can send many people looking into solar. The problem arises when there are too many homeowners who are checking out solar, but don’t actually have the ability or intent to buy right now.

When your sales reps have their schedules filled up with consultations for these dud leads, it causes you to miss out on opportunities for real sales.

There are plenty of promising leads that pop up every spring. You just need good screening in order to maximize the number you’re able to connect with.

Outsourcing Allows for Delivery of Only the Best Leads

When you outsource your lead generation process to a solar marketing agency that uses thorough screening, you eliminate the worry of whether or not the leads you’re getting are qualified.

A top ranked agency, like Grid Freedom, will check every lead through a personal phone call by American staff who are trained experts in identifying solid buyers. They take the time to investigate the lead’s financial situation, and whether or not their property can accommodate a solar system. Only the most promising leads make the cut.

From there, the leads are sent to you, ready to meet up at a pre-arranged appointment time. Grid Freedom provides the added convenience of scheduling at-home consultations, so there isn’t even the hassle of arranging a time and date with the homeowner.
